A Sign of Contradiction

The sign that is the Son of Man (cf. Luke 11:29) is in keeping with the criti-cal characteristic of Jesus' presence. Simeon the prophet says about him: "He is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected." (Luke 2:34). This rejection will reach its height in the passion, death and crucifixion.

Check Out Biblista.Net

Biblista.Net is a newly established website for bible students and bible enthusiasts. It offers articles and opportunities for discussion (via a forum) on particular passages of the Scriptures. Unlike Otium Sanctum, it will be dealing with the kind of topics that the uninitiated bible reader asks about a footnote found in a modern translation. On the other hand, it will also be different from the articles posted at The Bible Workshop (http://bibelwerks.d0x.de) in that it will not be only offering links, it will also be offering reviews of them. Thus, "Res Biblica" (http://www.biblista.net)

John Testified To The Light

This is a diagram that shows the relationship of John 1:19-28 with the preceding Prologue of the fourth Gospel. The liturgy for the Third Sunday of Advent, Year B, combines this section about John the Baptist with John 1:6-8 which is spliced into the prologue itself. The combination of these two passages make John the Baptist the testimony to the Light that shines on all men and gives them life.

Moses and the Two Uh Three Tablets of the Law

I saw the picture above as I was going through Google for an image of "Moses and the Law". I found it strange at first seeing Moses with three -- not two -- tablets of the Law. But when I clicked the image to see the "context" of the image, it led me to the "Bible as Literature" course homepage of a professor of literature in the Arkansas State U.
